About Spirit Moving
"Spirit" is the birthplace of our emotions, our character, our vitality, and our true self. For centuries, women have been judged and persecuted for following their spirit. Our spirit has been all but killed off, leaving many of us instinct-injured and fearful of claiming the wisdom that is our birthright. The word "spirit" is often associated with religion, but the root and original meaning of the word is "to breathe." It is both our life essence and the nourishment we need as we move through the tender process of transformation, as we face the inevitable changes in the cycle of life.
Spirit Moving nurtures and protects this life essence throughout the many expected and unexpected changes in a woman's life.
Through custom offerings, Spirit Moving creates a platform for women to honour their own vulnerability and innate wisdom, guiding them gently as they find their way home.

Kristen Roderick ~ Founder & Inspiratrice
My passion is creating beautiful spaces that offer sustenance, meaning and context at times of transition. As we move through major milestones like: becoming a parent, facing a serious illness, entering midlife, changing careers, losing a loved one, or becoming an elder, we may experience isolation or confusion about who we are, what we need or what’s next for us. Through intentional community ceremonies, personal rituals, dynamic online courses, and mentoring, I work with people from around the world through a shared desire for initiation, self-discovery and personal truth making. My hope is to offer experiences to reclaim what was once lost and move through life's thresholds with authenticity and wisdom.
My lifelong commitment to deep inner work is grounded in the desire for social justice and in understanding the social realities that affect personal and collective experiences. I incorporate narrative approaches, myth & symbol, rites of passage processes, and dreamwork in my work, while striving to create safe, equitable and supportive space both in person and online.

I am a Certified Life-Cycle Celebrant® with a Masters Degree in Social Work and an Undergraduate Degree in Women’s Studies. I've been working in the field of women's and gender issues for over 20 years - marching through the streets in my university days, then later serving on women's boards and working with women's organizations in various ways.
I have over ten years experience as a researcher-evaluator, community educator, and capacity builder, and worked with non-profit organizations in these capacities in Canada and internationally. My work has been presented at national conferences and my writing can be found in journals and blogs online and in academic publications. I am the co-author of a manual produced for the non-profit sector that has been used in colleges and universities across Canada. Some of my writing and fibre art has been published in We'Moon, a best-selling datebook and calendar that profiles writing and art by womxn from around the world.
I divide my time between my primary residence in Tkaronto/Toronto, and Mi'kma'ki/New Brunswick in a small city on the Bay of Fundy, where I was born and raised.
In my personal time I enjoy biking along the waterfront, taking in live music & theatre, and beach combing with my child and partner. I've dabbled in acting, co-starring in a feature-length film called The Bad Mother, and in music, having written and performed a spoken word piece in a song about dreams. When I'm not running my business or making adventures with my family, I'm most often pursuing my passion for textile arts.
